Civil and Structural Engineer Jobs in the UK with Visa Sponsorship

Rail, energy, water and housing projects need engineers. UK pay, the Skilled Worker salary rules and how chartership (ICE/IStructE) helps.

Civil and Structural Engineer Jobs in the UK with Visa Sponsorship

The UK has a long pipeline of infrastructure work in rail, roads, water, nuclear, offshore wind and grid upgrades. Large engineering consultancies and contractors sponsor overseas civil and structural engineers, especially those with design experience.

Salaries

  • Graduate to mid-level engineer: about £35,000–£50,000.
  • Senior / chartered engineer: about £50,000–£65,000+.

For sponsorship, the offer must meet the £41,700 general threshold or the going rate, unless a new-entrant discount applies, for example to applicants under 26 or recent graduates.

2026 rules in brief: since 22 July 2025, most Skilled Worker jobs must be at graduate level (RQF 6) and pay at least £41,700 a year or the occupation’s “going rate”, whichever is higher. Some roles have lower rates, such as new entrants, Health and Care roles, and jobs on the Temporary Shortage List, which runs until at least the end of 2026. Always check the current figures on GOV.UK before you apply.

Skills UK employers value

  • Design software such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Revit, Tekla, STAAD/ETABS and MicroDrainage.
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes, which UK design standards are based on.
  • Experience on large projects, with clear numbers: budgets, lengths, spans and loads.

Chartership

Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) boosts pay and credibility. Many sponsors support your route to Chartered Engineer (CEng) status after you arrive.

How to find sponsors

  1. Filter the Register of Licensed Sponsors for engineering consultancies and contractors.
  2. Apply through company careers pages and mention “Skilled Worker sponsorship required”.
  3. Consider multinationals with offices in your country. An internal transfer can be easier later.

Frequently asked questions

Is chartership required for a visa?

No. It is a career benefit, not a visa requirement.

Do UK firms accept non-UK degrees?

Yes, especially accredited degrees. ICE and IStructE can assess your academic background.

Can I work on site rather than in design?

Yes. Site engineering and project roles are also sponsored if they meet the skill and salary rules.

Information checked in October 2026. Immigration rules change often, so always confirm the latest requirements on the official government website before applying or paying any fees.

Apply only through the employer's official website or a government job portal. Genuine employers never ask you to pay for a job offer, interview or visa sponsorship — if someone does, it is a scam.
